Richmond Police find owner of phone that made threat

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Police Department told 8News that they found the person who owns the phone that called in a threat to the police department yesterday.

Richmond Police spokesperson Gene Lepley told WRIC that upon questioning the owner, he said that he loaned the phone to someone he didn’t know earlier in the day.

The man told police that he was not the one who made the call.

Richmond Police told 8News Saturday that a suspect called and told the department to “watch their back.”

The call was received around midday. Lepley also said that while police continue to investigate, they now believe that it was not a credible threat.
