Despite conditions, thousands gather for fireworks

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Despite the rain and overcast skies, thousands of people gathered at Meadow Farm Museum at Crump Park for the Red, White, and Lights July 4th Celebration. Henrico County Recreation and Parks changed its annual by celebration by moving it from the afternoon to the evening hours with entertainment from the Richmond Symphony and a Laser-Light Show.

Jeanna Hardee said she enjoyed the break from tradition. “Because it’s the 4th of July and this only happens once a year, I usually go to Genworth but since they have a light show I decided to try something new, I’m not worried about it (the rain) coming down again, it’s just rain,’ said Hardee as she babysat her friend’s 4-year old son Stephen.

In Richmond, people moved quickly to find a good spot to watch the show at Dogwood Dell.

Tione Cunningham said there is a technique to watching spectacular fireworks shows.

“The best thing to do is come early get a good parking space,” said Cunningham

Cunningham added that spectators should not try to get too close to the fireworks show, “…because you’ll have a hard time getting out of it and not have room to move.”
