RICHMOND, VA (AP/WRIC) — AAA projects nearly 43 million people traveling nationwide make this Fourth of July the highest travel volume on record.
AAA reports more than 36 million travelers will be driving this holiday weekend.
Friday, Virginia State Police launched their nationwide program to combat the traffic and keep travelers safe.
VSP said Virginia has seen an ‘alarming number’ of fatal crashes in the past couple of weeks alone. Last Fourth of July holiday, State Troopers arrested 96 drunk drivers.
Homeland Security also said travelers should expect to see long security lines at airports and an increase of police and security in public places.
