Heavy rain causes flooding in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Heavy rain in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach Friday has left yards and roads flooded.

A flash flood warning is in effect for Chesapeake and Virginia Beach until 9:45 p.m. The National Weather Service says a severe thunderstorm is expected to affect Chesapeake, Virginia Beach and Currituck County until 9:30 p.m.

Several reports of flooding have come in from all over Chesapeake, according to emergency dispatchers.

Dispatchers tell WAVY.com that trees are down in the 900 block of Land of Promise Road.

Thousands of people throughout Hampton Roads have lost power. Dominion Virginia Power confirms all of the outages are weather-related. Click here to check on live outage numbers.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel was operating with level four wind restrictions because winds were in excess of 60 miles per hour. The restriction has since been lifted.
