Great 8 Happenings: Pre-Independence Day edition


RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC)– 8News is back at it again with some events to spice up your weekend! Kick off your Independence Day weekend with fireworks, food, music and the history of Richmond.

Below is a list of events happening in the River City this weekend:


Star Spangled Celebration 

Join Kings Dominion as they celebrate America’s independence with with live entertainment, fireworks, special offers and more.

When: July 2 to July 4; events beginning at 10 a.m.

Where: Kings Dominion, 16000 Theme Park Way, Doswell, Va.

Cost: Varies based on park admission and/or season pass

Live Music Fridays 

TGIF and say hello to the weekend with the sweet sound of live music.

When: July 1; 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Where: On the Rox, 119 N. 18th St., Richmond, Va. 

Cost: FREE


Carytown Food and History Tour 

Come explore “The Mile of Style” and all of its boutiques, restaurants, and more. Come on out and learn about Carytown’s rich history as you sample food along the way.

When: July 2; 2:00 p.m.

Where: Carytown, Richmond, Va.


Rock and Roll Summer 

That’s right folks…the West Broad outdoor concert series is back. This week’s band is “U.S. Air Force Full Spectrum”

When: July 2; 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Where: West Broad Village, 3939 Duckling Drive, Glen Allen, Va.

Cost: FREE

Innsbrook Taste of Virginia 

Come on out to the 1st annual Innsbrook Taste of Virginia. Here you can come and taste delicious dishes from some local restaurants as they all compete for the title of “Taste of Virginia”

When: July 2; 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Where: Innsbrook Pavillion, 4901 Lake Brook Dr, Glen Allen, Va.

Cost: Tickets are $5 in advance, $8 at the gate, and kids 12 and under are FREE


The Art of Noise at The National 

This is the music event for people of all backgrounds. Come on out as the DJ’s play their greatest hits as you groove the night away.

When: July 3; 9:00 p.m.

Where:The National; 708 Broad Street, Richmond, Va.
