Police: Florida woman starved to death among roaches, rotting garbage

GULFPORT, Fla. (AP) – Tampa Bay-area authorities say two people face felony charges for neglecting to care for a frail 66-year-old woman whose body was found in a roach-infested home.

In a statement Saturday, Gulfport Police Sgt. Thomas Woodman says officers were called about the woman’s death Friday evening by two caretakers who had been living with her.

Woodman says the house was “uninhabitable, extremely cluttered, and infested with roaches.”

Both caretakers told investigators they had moved out over a week before discovering the woman’s body. Woodman says they “intentionally failed to provide adequate care.”

The woman’s name wasn’t released.

Police identified the caretakers as 41-year-old Jennifer Susan Poulos and 61-year-old Debra Germaine Poulos. Woodman says each is charged with neglect of an elderly or disabled adult.

Police records didn’t show whether either woman had an attorney.
