CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will close the Genito Road (Route 604) bridge over Tomahawk Creek in Chesterfield from 9 p.m. Friday, June 24 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 26 for pre-construction work in anticipation of the bridge replacement project scheduled to begin mid-July.

Work will include driving test piles (steel beams) into the ground, which will require extending a crane’s outriggers the width of all travel lanes during the closure. VDOT says the work is also weather dependent.

Drivers should follow the posted detour routes:

  • Eastbound Genito Rd. (Rt. 604) – Take Woolridge Rd. (Rt. 668) north to Watermill Pkwy. north to Old Hundred Rd. (Rt. 652) east to Charter Colony Pkwy. (Rt. 754) back to Genito Rd. (Rt. 604).
  • Westbound Genito Rd. (Rt. 604) – Take Charter Colony Pkwy. (Rt. 754) north to Old Hundred Rd. (Rt. 652) west to Watermill Pkwy. south to Woolridge Rd. (Rt. 668) south back to Genito Rd. (Rt. 604).
