RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The calendar says June, but at the theaters it’s Independence Day!
The aliens are back and Earth is once again in the crosshairs in “Independence Day: Resurgence.” In the two decades since the last attack, humans have turned leftover alien technology into a security system for the planet but it may not be enough to keep Earth from being destroyed. Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldbum, Vivica A. Fox and a few others return from the original. Will Smith is not one of them. The film is rated PG-13.
“Free State of Jones” is based on the true story of a confederate army deserter who lead a rebellion with other disenfranchised Southern soldiers. Played by Matthew McConaughey, he invites others, both black and white, to join him in this Utopian society he starts in Jones County, Mississippi. The film costars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Keri Russell. “The Shallows” finds a surfer, played by Blake Lively, fighting off a great white shark. She’s within sight of shore but can’t swim in without being attacked. The cast list for the film only lists 4 actors. “The Shallows” is rated PG-13.
