CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Crews were called to Monacan High School in Chesterfield County early Wednesday morning due to smoke coming from the school.
But, while they were battling a fire from within the school, offensive graffiti was also found on the outside of the school.
Some of the graffiti included “Midlo is better” and “KKK.” Other acts of vandalism were found but are too graphic in nature to post online.
Crews say the fire inside the school was not active, but a smoldering fire in the insulation coming from the ceiling area.
Crews are still determining what caused the incident, but sources say it could be related to some construction work being done at the school while students are on summer break.
Fire officials say the fire and graffiti are unrelated incidents.
