Crews tackle simultaneous fires less than 2 miles apart in Henrico County

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Crews in Henrico County battled separate fires just two miles apart in the county’s northside Tuesday evening.

Shortly before 7:20 p.m., units were dispatched to a garage fire in the 7900 block of Tamarind Place near Wilkinson Road. When they arrived, they found a garage heavily involved in fire sitting right next to a residential home.

Due to the volume of the fire, crews advanced three hose lines in order to gain control of the fire. Through their efforts, the fire was brought under control within 25 minutes of arrival.

The garage and its contents are a total loss. The nearby home suffered minor damage and there were no injuries to civilians nor fire department personnel.

As firefighters were arriving at the blaze on Tamarind Place, another call was received for a kitchen fire nearby in the 5000 block of Sandpiper Drive off Azalea Avenue. The first unit arrived to find a working kitchen fire, and directed personnel to advance hoses into the home.  Through aggressive actions of the first arriving units, the fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the kitchen area.

Investigation of this fire revealed that it was accidental in nature. No one was injured in this incident, but the occupants will be temporarily displaced.

It does not appear that power restoration was the cause of either incident.
