Connecticut man gives haircuts to the homeless

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — One man in Connecticut has been spreading love throughout his community, one haircut at a time.

For 28 years, Anthony Cymerys has been giving haircuts to homeless people in Bushnell Park in Hartford free of charge.

“We got a good thing going here,” Cymerys said. “There’s nothing like a haircut in the park.”

He gives his “clients,” who are Connecticut’s homeless, a fresh new haircut, and in return he receives something better than money.

“What I get from my customers is love,” he said. “The love you give is the love you get, and I cry every time one of these guys come up to me and tell me that they love me.”

In addition to haircuts, Cymerys has now been supplying food for the hungry to take.

“There’s a lot of people hungry in this world,” he said. “You’ll see how many people could use a sandwich, and something to take to have for tomorrow.”

Cymerys said his motivation is spreading love and bringing joy into people’s lives.

“It’s because I cut their hair with love I guess that’s what it is all about,” Cymerys said. “If we can bring a little joy into somebody’s life, well let’s bring that joy into their world.”
