Second arrest made in Midlothian Village homicide

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond City Police arrested a man in connection with a May 9 homicide at the Midlothian Village Apartments.

Police arrested and charged Kyreek R. Carter with conspiracy to commit murder. The 19-year-old Carter lives on the 1000 block of St. Paul Street in Richmond.

Prior to arresting Carter, U.S. Marshals arrested Larry M. Scott, 31, of the 5600 block of Petosky Avenue on May 27th. Police also charged Scott with conspiracy to commit murder.

The incident which led to the arrests occurred around 11:15 a.m. on May 9. Officers arrived at the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike in response to a reported double shooting. When authorities arrived, they found two adult males outside the apartment suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were transported to the hospital, but only one of the victims suffered from life-threatening injuries. Rashawn A. Brathwaite eventually succumbed to his injuries.

The second victim recovered.

Police believe the shooting occurred during the process of a robbery.
