Abducted Colonial Heights child safe; 2 arrested, 1 still wanted

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Police have apprehended two of the three suspects believed to be involved in the kidnapping of a 7-year-old Colonial Heights girl. One suspect is still at large.

Suspects Travis Deon Bennett and Troy Elmore Patterson, both of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina were apprehended in Weldon, North Carolina late Monday night. The child was found safe with the suspects and has since been returned to her mother. Both suspects have been charged with Felony Abduction.

A third suspect, Travis Donell Harvey, also of Roanoke Rapids is currently wanted for Felony Abduction and is believed to be in North Carolina. In a press release, Harvey was described as a black male, 31 years of age.

The 7-year-old girl is now back home after taken from her home on Lakeview Park Road Monday night.

The Colonial Heights Police Department says Travis D. Bennett, 33, had been in a prior relationship with the child’s mother but did not have any biological ties to the victim.

According to a release, the suspects forced entry into the mother’s home and attempted to force her and her child to leave with them. The suspect was able to force the child into the vehicle, but the mother escaped and contacted police. During the incident, the suspects also took personal items belonging to the victim, including her cell phone.

Amber Alerts were in the process when North Carolina Highway Patrol located the child safely around midnight in Weldon, NC.

Bennett and Patterson are currently in the process of being extradited back to Colonial Heights.

CHPD has been working with the Virginia State Police and the FBI during this investigation.
