3 Martins stores to close in a month, impacting 257 employees

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — MARTIN’S Food Markets announced Tuesday the closing dates for three stores in the greater Richmond area. The company had previously announced in December 2015 that these three stores would close in the summer of 2016.

The impacted stores and closure dates include:

  • 3330 South Crater Rd., Petersburg which closes on July 16
  • 7324 Bell Creek Rd., Mechanicsville which closes on July 23
  • 3000 Stony Point Rd., Richmond which closes on July 30

“With the leases for all three locations expiring, we made the business decision last year not to extend the leases for these three stores,” said Tom Lenkevich, MARTIN’S president. “We appreciate the hard work of our associates in providing quality service to our Petersburg, Mechanicsville and Stony Point customers over the past several years.”

A total of 257 associates will be impacted. All associates will be offered the opportunity to transfer to nearby stores.

According to a press release, the decision to close these stores is not related to the pending Ahold Delhaize merger.
