Student in custody after bringing gun to Dinwiddie Middle School

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An 8th grader brought a gun to Dinwiddie Middle School Thursday.

School officials say the gun was not loaded, but the student did have ammunition on him.

Another student reported the weapon to administration and within minutes, administration and the school resource officer took the student into custody.

No threats were ever made and the school did not go into lockdown. School officials say this was an isolated incident that was under control immediately.

An automated call went home to parents at about 1:30 p.m.

The incident is still under investigation and the sheriff’s office will release charges once they are decided.
