Allegiant Airlines flight returning to Florida airport for emergency landing

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — An Allegiant Airlines plane is on its way back to the St. Pete-Clearwater airport to make an emergency landing.

An airport spokesperson said that Allegiant Flight 844 took off from the airport on Thursday morning headed to Stewart International Airport in New Windsor, New York.

However, the plane reported problems and is returning to the airport to make an emergency landing. No details have been released regarding the type of problem the plane is having.

Eagle 8 is headed to the airport.

This is the second Allegiant Airlines plane to make an emergency landing at the St. Pete- Clearwater airport in the last two days. On Wednesday, Allegiant flight 871 made an emergency landing at 12:19 p.m. after declaring an emergency due to a mechanical issue. An Allegiant spokesperson said that the plane landed safely and was towed to the gate where passengers disembarked. Allegiant mechanics are conducting a full inspection of the plane, according to the spokesperson.
