TGI Friday’s hosts fundraiser for 5-year-old Hanover girl battling brain cancer

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) —  TGI Fridays hosted a fundraiser Tuesday evening in support of Sawyer Perkins, a 5-year old girl from Hanover who has recently been diagnosed with anaplastic ependymoma.

Sawyer is at Saint Jude Children’s hospital in Tennessee with her mom, a Henrico teacher, by her side.

Her father, Nathan Perking was in Henrico Tuesday night, grateful for his coworkers at TGI Fridays who wanted to help his family.

“A lot of my best friends work here and they came up with it on their own,” said Perkins.

Bartenders showed off their skills for a flair show, with the special drinks going to the highest bidder. That money along with a silent auction and 10% of proceeds will be donated to the family.

Perkins said the support from the community has been overwhelming.

“You would never know how much support you have until something like this happens,” said Perkins. “You could have never imagined this type of help”

Perkins said the best way to describe his daughter is by the “spunky spirited award” given to her by her preschool.

“She has just that a lot of spirit a lot of verve a lot of charisma and that’s what’s going to get her through this,” said Perkins.
