NEW YORK (AP) — Kroger is holding a nationwide hiring event to fill 14,000 open jobs across all its supermarket chains, including Ralphs, Fred Meyer and Food 4 Less.

Candidates can apply online at and show up to a store Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for an interview.

Many of the openings are for part-time associates who bag groceries, stock shelves or ring up items at the cash register.

All Richmond-area Kroger stores are currently hiring.

Kroger will hold a hiring event on Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kroger Training Center, located at 2235 Staples Mill Road. Kroger is seeking to fill approximately 600 positions throughout the Mid-Atlantic division, with 200 of those being hourly positions within Richmond-area stores. Openings include positions in the deli, grocery, bakery, meat department and drug/GM. Cashiers and baggers are also needed.

The company says the jobs are permanent.

The Kroger Co., based in Cincinnati, has nearly 2,800 stores, including Baker’s, Pay Less and King Scoopers.

The company says it created 9,000 new jobs last year and 20,000 new jobs in 2014. The 14,000 open jobs that it is currently looking to fill are a mix of new and old positions.
