Atlantic 10 baseball season coming down to wire for VCU, Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Atlantic 10 Baseball regular season is in its final month, and both Richmond-based teams are in the mix.

VCU was atop the league going into a weekend series with St. Louis at the Diamond. The Rams swept St. Louis, which had been tied for second. As a result of winning percentages, though, the other second place team, Rhode Island, overtook VCU for first place based on winning percentages in conference. VCU has played three more conference games than URI. VCU is hoping to win its first even regular season Atlantic Ten title.

Richmond was in seventh place at the beginning of the weekend. Only the top seven teams in the conference make the tournament. The Spiders took two out of three from UMass at Pitt Field, and that enabled them to move up one spot to sixth place. Richmond travels to George Washington for a three-game series this weekend. the Colonials are currently in 8th. Whomever wins that series should find themselves on solid footing to make the tournament.
