2 arrested after traffic stop in Sussex County

SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two people were arrested in Sussex County after a traffic stop on Interstate 95 last month.

On Tuesday, April 26, Sussex County Deputy Michael Kessinger stopped a vehicle traveling northbound on I-95 at 89 mph in a posted 70 mph zone.

The driver was found to be Brittany Miles. Miles was wanted on an outstanding federal indictment.

A subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of some counterfeit U.S. bills. More counterfeit U.S.currency was found in the drivers’ purse. 11 counterfeit bills in all were discovered.

Further searching of the vehicle led to the discovery of a handgun and the passenger, Dannis Johnson Jr., was arrested and charged with possession of a concealed weapon.

Sussex deputies also seized $739 valid U.S. currency.

The U.S.Secret Service was contacted as they are the agency handling Miles’ federal indictment.

Miles is charged with possession of counterfeit and being held at the Sussex County Jail. Johnson was released on bond for a court appearance.
