VSU to introduce Reggie Barlow as new head football coach

ETTRICK, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State University will name former Alabama State head coach Reggie Barlow as the new head coach of Trojans football.

The introductory press conference will be Thursday May 5th, at 11:30 a.m., the university confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

Barlow will take over the program from interim head coach Justin Harper, who filled in after Byron Thweatt left the head coaching job to coach linebackers at James Madison University.

Barlow was head coach of his alma mater Alabama State from 2007-2014. He coached quarterbacks at ASU from 2005-2006 and played wide receiver for the Hornets from 1992-1995. He went on to play in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996-2003.

Barlow went 49-42 as Alabama State’s head coach, winning a share of the Southwestern Athletic Conference title three straight years from 2010-2012.
