Powerball mania intensifies as jackpot climbs to $415 million

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — Just a couple of months ago, three people each won a share of the record $1.6 billion jackpot.

Now, the winnings are climbing up again as the Powerball has reached $415 million.

8News talked to some people Wednesday who said they were hoping to be lucky even though their chances of winning are slim.

Harold Clark from Mechanicsville said he would use the money to give back to those who are less fortunate.

“I like to walk up and give them $20 to help them pay for their groceries,” Clark said. “I’d love to be able to go in after the Powerball and give them $100, $500.”

Clark said he waits to play the Powerball until the winnings get high.

“I’m not a real gambling person,” said Clark. “So I just feel lucky and maybe I’ll buy one maybe three a year.”

Since no one won on Wednesday, Saturday’s jackpot will be $415 million.
