Death investigation underway after woman’s body found off Route 360 in Amelia County

AMELIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Amelia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a body was found Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call around 5:00 a.m. reporting that a body was found. Deputies and officers with Virginia State Police responded to the 17000 block of Patrick Henry Highway (Route 360) in Amelia and located a black female lying at the edge of a driveway. Authorities say the body was discovered by a man who was on his way home from work.

“We do suspect foul play,” Amelia County Sheriff Ricky Walker said.

The man who made the discovery did not wish to go on camera, but told 8News that his heart goes out to the victim’s family.

Police blocked traffic and combed through brush, searching for clues that could help them learn who the woman, how she died and/or where she was last seen.

“I don’t believe it happened here,” Sheriff Walker said.

Police say that even though the victim was found early in the morning, they hope someone saw something and will say something.
