COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — A young girl is recovering after being attacked by a dog, and police say this is actually the 3rd time this very dog has attacked someone.
On Saturday, an 11-year-old girl was attacked just a month and a half ago her 10-year-old sister was also attacked by the same dog. The incident occurred in the block of Lafayette Avenue. Police say the dog was a 75-pound mixed breed.
“He bites me, I collapse and he bites me more,” 11-year-old Deborah Dodson said recalling the most recent attack. “I’m calling, ‘mommy, help!’ because the dog is on me.”
The young girl’s mother, Deborah Dobson, rushes to help after hearing the screams.
“I ran right to it; I knew exactly what happened,” said Summer Dodson, Deborah’s mother.
Five doors away, another neighbor hears screams and calls 9-1-1.
“She was horrified, very upset, visibly shaking, in a lot of pain, bleeding,” recalls Wanda Ward, a neighbor who witnessed the incident unfold.
Deborah was taken to the hospital by her mom where she was treated for numerous cuts and bite marks.
It’s a story that’s all-to-familiar for the Dodson family. 10-year-old Abigail Dodson, Deborah’s younger sister, Abigail Dodson, was attacked by the same dog and has the scars to prove it.
“The dog bit my wrist and broke it, it was very painful and scary,” Abigail said.
As for this latest incident, Abigail was standing right by her older sister when she was attacked.
“I just ran up the steps and I saw Deb, my sister, fall on the ground and I ran to her once the dog was away,” Abigail added.
Police are now investigating and say the dog has been quarantined. The Dodson family hopes for no more encounters with the aggressive pooch.
“I don’t want the dog back at the house, but I also don’t want to see somebody’s baby killed,” Summer Dodson said.
Summer says she does not blame the owners, calling them great neighbors who have offered to pay the medical bills. It is important to note this dog was not listed on the dangerous dog registry before this attack.
