Police charge man for allegedly having drugs, firearm with children in car

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A man was arrested and is facing multiple charges after he allegedly fled police during a traffic stop.

Chesterfield Police say a driver was pulled over for a traffic stop at Chalkley Elementary School on Saturday, April 16. The driver, identified by police as 26-year-old Hasaan Williams, was found to be wanted in Richmond. Officers asked Williams to step out of the car, but he refused and attempted to drive away. He then stopped nearby and fled on foot, police said. He soon returned and was taken into custody.

Two children, ages 7 and 9, were in the vehicle at the time of the incident. According to police, they were not injured.

Williams was found to be in possession of what appeared to be a controlled substance and a firearm.

He was charged with two counts of abuse and neglect of children, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm on school property, felony eluding and possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs.
