RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Central Virginia fans are among the many mourning the loss of music legend Prince, sharing countless memories tied to his music. 8News talked to one of the late singer’s biggest, and youngest local fans.

Prince’s biggest hits came out decades before Gabriel Solle was born.

“He jams to the song, he dances to it. I like the rhythm to it. It sounds good,” the 10-year old said.

While most of his friends are listening to more contemporary sounds, like Justin Bieber and Fetty Wap, Solle knows just about everything there is to know about The Purple One.

His favorite song is ‘The Ballad of Dorothy Parker.’

On April 2, the legendary musician tweeted a photo of Gabriel at Plan 9 records on Cary Street. Dressed in a full-on Prince costume, he posed for his mom with the artist’s final album in hand.

After Maria Solle posted the photo online, Prince tweeted it, even giving Richmond a shout-out in the tweet. Gabriel became a massive fan when he was around 7, thanks to his mom.

“My youngest son and I definitely have a bond over Prince,” Maria Solle told 8News. “We listen to him quite often.”

As local tributes to the singer pour in, Gabriel said there is a reason he hopes his own children will listen to Prince one day.

“He was really ahead of his time and his culture,” he said.

On April 23, fans are planning a Prince tribute at the Ashland Theater. There will be a 7pm showing of Purple Rain. The tribute is open to the public.
