Court date set for man charged with killing Hanover 2-year-old

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The man charged with homicide in the death of a two-year-old was in Juvenile and Domestic Relations court Thursday to have his charges certified.

27-year-old Marcus S. Williams, of Mechanicsville will have a Grand Jury hearing in Hanover Circuit Court July 19th at 9 a.m. on charges that he killed his girlfriend’s son.

Authorities say 2-year-old James L. Brown died of blunt force trauma to the head. Deputies had previously said that they suspected the death stemmed from child abuse.

They arrested Williams April 16 after deputies responded to his apartment in the 7100 block of Garden Park Lane in reference to an apparent domestic disturbance called in by neighbors.

Once on scene, authorities found Williams and Brown, who was unconscious with obvious signs of trauma.

The child was transported at the time to VCU Medical Center, where he died.

Williams was arrested and initially charged with child neglect and malicious wounding before homicide was added to the charges. He is currently incarcerated at Pamunkey Regional Jail.
