Dogs had the run of the city at the 14th Annual Dog Jog and 5k Run

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Dog lovers came out Saturday to take part in the Richmond SPCA’s 14th Annual Dog Jog and 5k Run.

The fundraising event helps support homeless pets in the care of the Richmond SPCA.

A total of 316 runners ran participated in the 5k while 430 dogs and their families participated in the dog jog.

The winners of the 5k are James Atchison with a time of 18:33 and Samone Franzese with a time of 19:29.

The top fundraising team was Running Buddies who raised over  $7,700.

Dana Taylor raised the most money as an individual runner raising over $3,800.

According to preliminary reports, the organization raised over $141,000.  The organization is hoping to raise more money to meet their goal of $151,000.
