RICHMOND, Va (WRIC) — Nearly 40,000 Verizon employees are prepared to strike as early as Wednesday morning if they do not reach a new labor agreement with the telecom giant.
The workers primarily service the company’s traditional phone business. They’ve gone without a contract since August.
Their union says it’s trying to stop Verizon from moving jobs offshore or cutting benefits for injured workers.
Verizon says the company has thousands of non-union workers trained to cover new assignments in the event of a strike.
8News reached out to local Verizon stores on the potential strike, and they had no comment.
