MIAMI, FL (WRIC) — Saturday evening, the Miami Heat and Briante Weber agreed to a three-year deal with the first year being guaranteed and will join the Heat’s playoff roster immediately.
Weber will be active for the Heat’s next game Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. in Miami.
Briante Weber was signed by Miami as a rookie free agent at the beginning of the season to then be sent down to their D-League affiliate, Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Last month, he signed a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies. He played in six games, starting in four, averaging 4.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 steals in about 28 minutes per game.
In 28 regular season appearances for the Skyforce, Weber averaged 10.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals. The team also swept the Westchester Knicks in the opening round of the D-League playoffs, in which Weber 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, one assist and 3.5 steals.
Briante Weber is VCU’s all-time leader in career steals and is 2nd for NCAA’s all-time career steals list. Weber has done all of this as a professional following a torn ACL he endured on January 31, 2015 in the Rams loss to Richmond at the Siegel Center.
