RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — More than 29,400 people participated in Saturday’s Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k.
Jason Edwards ran with his Fiance Margaret and friend Ashley. He had a plan to make it through the race.
“Try not to start out too quick today there’s a bad tail wind try to get behind a group of people and let it carry me the second half so we’ll see how that goes,” says Edwards.
Competitors took advantage of the live entertainment as they ran the course.
Thom Parynik, a participant, says he just wanted to experience everything the event had to offer.
“I think it’s mostly the experience like I said I’m not a big runner just coming out here and experiencing all the excitement and everything up and down Monument and what they stand for… just the atmosphere is something really, really to participate in,” Parynik said.
For some runners, like Janna Imel, this was their first time running the marathon.
“I did not expect it to be this big this is my first event I’ve ever been involved with but I’m looking forward to being energized by the crowd and actually I didn’t train so I’m hoping people’s momentum will propel me to do very well… laughs!
