Victim of early morning shooting near Richmond’s federal courthouse identified

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) —  The identity of the person found dead after an early morning shooting has been released.

Herbert L. Brown Jr., 32,  of the 6000 block of Claypoint Road, was found dead in the driver seat of the car parked near the federal courthouse, close to the intersection of Grace and 8th streets in downtown Richmond.

According to the Richmond Police Department, officers near the scene heard gunshots just before 3:00 a.m. on Sunday. When police arrived on the scene, they found one person dead inside of a car.

Investigators said a witness told police the shooter fired from a car that drove up to the victim’s vehicle.

So far, police have not made any arrests. The victim’s name has not yet been released. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
