1 killed in accident involving tractor-trailer, moped in Charles City

CHARLES CITY, Va. (WRIC) — One person was killed in an accident involving a tractor-trailer and moped in Charles City Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred just before 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 607 (Wayside Road) and Route 106 (Roxbury Road).

According to Virginia State police, a 2009 Yamaha moped was traveling west on Route 607 when it approached the intersection with Route 106, stopped and then pulled into the path of a 1997 Kenworth tractor-trailer that was heading south on Route 106.

The driver of the moped, who has been identified as 75-year-old Alfred D. Johnson of Charles City County, was transported to VCU Medical Center where he later died. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 49-year-old Robert W. Kee of Richmond, was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt.

Police say no charges will be filed in connection to the wreck.
