RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Spiders football is in the midst of spring practices at Robins Stadium, wanting more after a stellar 2015 campaign.
The Spiders football program got back to a stage it had not previously seen since 2008 last season: an NCAA Tournament semifinal. They fell to eventual 4-time defending national champions North Dakota St.
The experience in and of itself has provided the motivation for Richmond to strive for greater results and expectations for what is already a proud and storied program.
Danny Rocco, who reached his first NCAA Tournament semifinal as the Spiders head coach, is using it to help proper his team to new heights for the upcoming season.
Two new coordinators, Chris Cosh the new defensive coordinator, and John Garrett (brother of Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett) the new offensive coordinator, have not missed a beat and are imbuing what helped the Spiders reach their final destination last season as well as what they bring to the fold from their experience.
The Spiders will hold two scrimmages, April 2nd at 8:00 a.m. and April 7th at 4:30 p.m., before holding their 2016 Spider Spring game April 16th at 1:00 p.m. in Robins Stadium, which will be open to the public.
