Police investigating fatal hit-and-run in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Police in Petersburg are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Thursday night.

According to Petersburg Police, officers were called to the 1600 block of Youngs Road for reports of a person down. Arriving units made contact with a victim who they identified as Ross Epps Jr. and was suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

He was transported to Southside Regional Medical Center when he succumbed to his injuries.

Through an investigation, police discovered pieces of a right front marker lens at the scene. It was later revealed that the lens came from a 1995-2005 Chevy Astro van. Police say the suspect vehicle would likely have damage to the front passenger side of the van, including the broken lens. The vehicle may also be missing its AM/FM antenna.
