Jury recommends five life sentences plus 790 years in child molestation, pornography case

ESSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A jury in Essex County is recommending that a convicted child molester spend the rest of his life behind bars.

On Thursday, a jury convicted Ronald Edmond Porak of one count of sodomy with a child under the age of thirteen, four counts of object sexual penetration, and twenty counts of producing child pornography.

The jury recommended five life sentences on the sodomy and penetration charges and 790 years on the production of child pornography.

Porak was arrested last March after a family member of the victim reported that Porak was molesting and taking pornographic pictures of the then nine-year-old victim.

The victim testified during the two-day jury trial that the molestation and photographing had been going on for years.

Essex County Commonwealth’s Attorney, Vince Donoghue, praised the jury’s verdict and recommendation.

“These jurors had to sit through two days of brutal testimony and view terrible pictures, but were able to work through it and see that justice was done,” Donoghue said.

Donoghue also thanked the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Computer Crimes Section of the Office of the Attorney General for their help in this case.

“Their help was invaluable in preparing for and trying this case,” Donoghue said.

Porak will be formally sentenced in Essex County Circuit Court on June 8 at 9 a.m.
