CHICAGO, Ill. (WRIC) — For many basketball fans in Virginia, UVA’s stunning collapse and loss to Syracuse Sunday night will be a painful memory, but there are some in Richmond with a cause to celebrate the Orange’s success. Syracuse guard Michael Gbinije is a graduate of Benedictine, and after an up and down college career he has reached the goal of every college basketball player: the Final Four.
Gbinije began his career at Duke before transferring to Syracuse. As mandated by the NCAA, Gbinije sat out a season because of the transfer. In the 2014-2015 season, Syracuse self-imposed a postseason ban due top NCAA rules violations. Finally, in Gbinije’s final year of eligibility, the Orange is headed to the Final Four.
