14-year-old girl shot on Easter weekend in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 14-year-old girl was shot outside during broad daylight on Saturday, police said.

Officers received a report of multiple shots fired near the 1600 block of Campostella Road in Norfolk around 5:45 p.m.

The victim was found there with non-life threatening injuries. She was rushed to the hospital.

When 8News sister station WAVY-TV 10 arrived, crime scene tape was blocking off part of nearby Vernon Drive. Investigators were walking door-to-door, speaking to people in the area.

Off-camera, neighbors said that the shooting is disturbing.

“There’s little innocent kids out here,” one man said. “I just think we gotta do better. We gotta do better.”

“It’s sad… one day before Easter,” a woman said. “She should be dressing up in the morning for Easter, you know, celebrating the rising of Jesus and Easter egg hunting and all that, and here she is in the hospital… for what? For what?”

The suspect remains at large.

Police are investigating whether the young girl was the intended target.
