CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Police are continuing their search for three suspects after a home invasion and robbery at a Chesterfield apartment complex early Monday morning.
Police say it happened around 1:40 a.m. Investigators say three men wearing ski masks forced themselves into a home at the South Pointe apartments before striking the victim with a handgun and a fist before taking his cash and taking off. Authorities say it doesn’t appear to be random, but it’s not the first crime to shake up the neighborhood recently.
Authorities say it doesn’t appear to be random, but it’s not the first crime to shake up the neighborhood recently.
“This is not the first one that I’ve heard of,” said resident Michelle Thomas.
Thomas says she’s lived here for the past three years and while most of that time has been peaceful, crime has started to pick up recently. According to Chesterfield County police there have been four robberies at the apartment complex in the past six months, two in homes and two in the street. Thomas says it’s led to some changes for her family.
“I make sure that if my boys are going somewhere that they walk in groups, if my daughter goes outside i make sure i keep checking in and out on her,” said Thomas.
Police say they’ve been concentrating significant uniformed and non-uniformed resources at this location for months and have been working with the property manager there to enhance security. Meanwhile residents are hoping that the latest suspects are caught soon so they can put their minds at ease.
“I hope that they catch them and lock them up because i don’t want anybody coming over here and breaking in my house,” said Thomas.
If you have any information about the suspects, you’re asked to call police.
