Shaka is in the building

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (WRIC) — The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee seems to have a sense of sensationalism or, at least, a sense of humor.

Eleven months after Shaka Smart left VCU for Texas, the two teams are under one roof in Oklahoma City. It is the first time some of Smart’s VCU recruits have seen or spoken to their former coach.

Most Rams said they’d be happy to see Smart but that they were focused on beating Oregon State and not on seeing Smart.

Smart said he has followed VCU’s success under first-year Head Coach Will Wade but that he does not want to overstep any bounds by reconnecting with his former players.

8Sports Director Mitch Carr is in Oklahoma City and will be following the Rams during their run in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament. Follow him on Twitter and look for highlights and reaction from Friday’s game on 8News at 6 and 11.

HAVOC Haven will also live blog the game here in Richmond.
