Henrico father charged with killing 7-week-old daughter

HENRICO, Va. (WRIC)– A 22-year-old Henrico man is charged with killing his baby daughter.

Trintie Burns was just seven weeks old when she died in January. According to grand jury indictments, police believe the father accidentally killed his baby girl. The infant suffered a skull fracture and two brain bleeds.

Diquan Burns was taking care of Trinitie at his parents’ eastern Henrico home when he told investigators he went to “grab her out” of her swing when “the back and right side” of Trinitie’s head hit that swing.

The infant’s mother arrived the next day to find a knot on the right side of her daughter’s head. The baby wouldn’t wake up. Both parents took Trintie to the hospital. She died four days later.

No one answered the door at Burns’ home, but a relative told 8News he didn’t like to talk about what happened and that everyone in the family was doing OK.

On Monday, the grand jury indicted Burns on murder and child neglect charges. He bonded out of jail and is due back in court in April.
