HENRICO COUNTY, Va (WRIC) — Henrico County Division of Fire responded to the 7500 block of Griffin Ave this afternoon for the report of a house fire.

Units received the call at 1:50 p.m.. Crews found a one-story, single-family dwelling fire on Griffin Avenue.

They found moderate smoke on arrival and a bedroom on fire once inside.

The fire was extinguished within minutes and there were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

The residents of the home were asleep at the time of the fire and were alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm.  Everyone was able to get out of the home without injuries.

This is a  example of how a working smoke alarm can not only save lives but also catch a fire when it is still small, reducing the amount of damage.

The fire was determined to have been accidental in nature.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents with their immediate needs.
