Richmond man killed in Norfolk shooting

NORFOLK Va. (WAVY|WRIC) — A Richmond man was killed during an early-morning shooting in Norfolk on Thursday.

Police have identified the man as 28-year-old Phillip Spell of Richmond.

Melinda Wray with Norfolk Police tells WAVY.com officers received a call for a shooting in the 800 block of Fremont Street, near O’Keefe Street, at around 4:31 a.m.

Responding officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, with the extent of his injuries not initially known.

However, police confirmed at 9 a.m. Thursday that he had succumbed to the injuries. The man’s body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Officers were on the scene for several hours Thursday morning investigating the area.

Police have not released a description of the suspect.
