Virginia State Police ID victims of triple fatal crash in Richmond County

RICHMOND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police are investigating a single-vehicle triple fatal crash on Route 360 west near Route 607 in Richmond County.

The crash occurred around 8:14 a.m. on Route 360. According to Virginia State Police, a1996 Oldsmobile was traveling westbound when it ran off the road, struck a tree and caught fire. Troopers and deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene and pulled three occupants from the vehicle. CPR and other life-saving techniques were administered until fire and rescue arrived.

All three occupants – who have been identified as 80-year-old Lewis R. Ashton, 83-year-old Garnett W. Wilson and 80-year-old Mabel G. Wilson of Northumberland County – were pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash. They say neither speed nor alcohol are being considered factors.
