Jury trial set for Richmond Police officer accused of sexually assaulting a child

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A jury trial has been set for the Richmond Police officer accused of sodomizing a child.

39-year-old Charles Church, a 12-year veteran of the Richmond Police Department, will be in court June 21 for the trial.

In November 2015, Church was accused of having sex with a 12-year-old. He was arrested two days after the alleged incident happened on Monday, November 2, and was charged with one count of having sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl and two counts of committing forcible sodomy.

Church is currently on leave without pay from the police department. He remains incarcerated at the Richmond City Jail.
