HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD)— A book that’s been missing from Herrick District Library in for 49 years is back on the shelf.
In a post on its Facebook page, the Holland, Michigan library said it received the book this week, along with a letter from the borrower.
The borrower said he believed he checked out the book in 1967 while researching World War II for a project while attending Hope College. He said the book mistakenly got packed away in a trunk filled with personal belongings that was shipped back to New York. The man said he moved the trunk many times, but never opened it until recently.
“Please accept the book and my modest donation to cover what I am sure is a tremendous fine,” the man wrote.
The amount of the donation was $100, ABC News reports.
