Arrest made in Hopewell bank robbery

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — With help from the community, the Hopewell Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force have arrested the suspect who robbed the Hopewell Chemical Federal Union last week.

The robbery occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13 at 702 Elm Street.

After security images were sent out to media outlets in the greater Richmond area, tips from the community helped authorities identify the suspect as 42-year-old Michael Wayne Cole. He was arrested Tuesday, January 19th by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force.

“The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, of which the Hopewell Police Department is a member, has proven to be an invaluable asset,” said Hopewell Police Chief John Keohane.
