Death investigation in Richmond after human remains found

RICHMOND, Va (WRIC) – Richmond Police detectives are conducting a death investigation after human remains were discovered in a residence on the city’s north side.

Saturday, at approximately 3:53 p.m., RPD officers were called to a rental property in the 4900 block of Chamberlayne Ave. after a body was discovered in an unoccupied apartment. A resident in a downstairs apartment tells 8 News the body was found in a vacant upstairs apartment. Other neighbors say they are filled with questions.

“Its awkward for me to find out about a dead body at all because usually over here it is quiet,” said Tanya Johnson who lives near by.

Neighbors say the news is spreading, many wondering who this person may be and what may have caused their death.
“Everybody goes to work comes home goes to sleep so that is unusual for over here,” said Johnson.

The medical examiner will determine the body’s age, race and gender as well as the cause and manner of death.remains found 1-17
