UPDATE: John Ridley had a pre-trial hearing date set in court Tuesday. His next scheduled hearing is March 21 at 9 a.m.
DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One person is dead and other is in custody following an ‘isolated family incident’ in Dinwiddie County, sheriff’s deputies tell 8News.
At 2:40 p.m. Monday afternoon, police say a person showed up at the emergency room at Southside Medical Center suffering from stab wounds. After speaking with the stabbing victim, police were led to a home in the 24000 block of Ridley Road near Old Stage Road where they found a deceased male inside. He was later identified as 59-year-old Dwight Carrington Ridley.
Family and friends are heartbroken after hearing the news.
“He wouldn’t hurt a fly, he would give you the shirt off his back,” said Calvin Pegram, a friend of the family.
Family members were too emotional to appear on camera, but allowed their words to describe their disbelief.
“We’re just shocked right now, everybody is in just a real big shock,” said one family member.
Now, friends left to reflect on the memories they have of a man gone too soon, a man they say loved the outdoors and hunting.
“Dwight may not have been one of the best hunters our there, but he was one of the more favorable hunters out there,” said Pegram.
The stabbing victim, John Darryl Ridley of Stoney Creek, was deemed a homicide suspect and is now in custody, according to deputies.
He is being charged with second-degree murder and being held without bond at Meherrin River Regional Jail.
