Richmond City council approves new measures regarding weeds, fire escapes

RICHMOND, Va (WRIC) – After a contentious December 14 meeting, Richmond City Council approved several high-profile measures at its January 11 meeting.

Among them, weeds now cannot be more than a foot high. Violators will be subject to fines. The city also moved toward an agreement with Fulton Hill properties for much-needed housing development.

Richmond Center Stage will be renamed Dominion Arts Center, and building owners are now required to maintain their fire escapes and have them inspected every five years.

The next city council meeting will be February 8th at Richmond City Hall.
